WHY IS BREAST DENSITY IMPORTANT?
40-60% of women have Dense Breast Tissue.
Dense breast tissue increases the risk of developing breast cancer.
Women with extremely dense breast tissue have a 4 to 6 times greater risk of developing breast cancer than women who do not have dense breast tissue.
71% of all breast cancers occur in women with dense breasts.
Mammograms will miss a cancer diagnosis 40% of the time in women with dense breast tissue.
Therefore not only are women with dense breast tissue at higher risk of developing breast cancer but they are more likely to be diagnosed at a late stage due to inadequate screening protocols.
