Why is Breast Density so important?

Operation Breast Density

Our mission is to empower women with knowledge about their breast health to optimize and individualize their breast cancer screening.

We aim to educate those on breast density and its associated risk for breast cancer development as well as promote awareness about the screening challenges of dense breast tissue.

Our goals are to prevent missed or delayed cancer diagnoses in women to ultimately reduce the overall mortality of breast cancer patients.

Surgical Time out!

Let’s Review the facts.

  • 40-60% of women have Dense Breast Tissue.

  • Dense breast tissue increases the risk of developing breast cancer.

  • Women with extremely dense breast tissue have a 4 to 6 times greater risk of developing breast cancer than women who do not have dense breast tissue.

  • 71% of all breast cancers occur in women with dense breasts.

  • Mammograms will miss a cancer diagnosis 40% of the time in women with dense breast tissue.

  • Therefore not only are women with dense breast tissue at higher risk of developing breast cancer but they are more likely to be diagnosed at a late stage due to inadequate screening protocols.

What are the next steps in breast cancer screening for women with dense breast tissue?
